This new tour concept combines the flexibility of a self-guided biking in your own pace with support and input from a local guide driving a van along the route. When you meet the guide you will be given a full range of navigation tools to let you ride easily on your own, yet the guide will stay in an easy reach as your back-up whatever might come in your way.
The minimum number of semi-guided tour participants is two, so this type of tour is also a great option for those seeking a guided tour in case it does not meet its minimum number of four participants.
Professional bilingual guide in a support van
An English-speaking guide accompanies you during the whole tour, only he does not cycle with you, but drives a support van and meets you on the way. You can enjoy a ride free of encumbrance and worry as the guide stays in an easy reach.
The air-conditioned van can carry both you and bikes, as a back-up in case of technical difficulties, to shorten the riding distance or skip some sections.
Stand-by support cellphone
We provide you with a mobile phone to stay in touch with the guide during your ride. You will have their mobile number programmed. In case you cannot reach them for any reason, there is also our office number.
Accommodation in selected hotels and pensions
We use smaller, preferably family-run hotels and pensions located in old town centers and often in historical buildings. We always try to arrange a good view as well.
All rooms are typically double occupancy with a private bathroom. A double room has one large bed for two people (usually queen size), a twin room has two single beds in one room. Single rooms are available for a supplement fee.
Your room, breakfast and local taxes are included in the tour cost. However, if you take any extra services (telephone, minibar etc.), you will settle this cost with the hotel receptionist at the check-out.
A typical buffet breakfast usually consists of bread, rolls, cheese, ham, jams, spreads, cereals, muesli, fruit and yoghurt; coffee, tea, milk, and fruit juice.
Although lunch and dinner are not included in our semi-guided tour package, your guide can give you recommendations for places to eat and he can also go to dinner with you if you wish so.
Your guide in the support van carries your luggage each day from the start to the overnight destination. This allows you to ride in comfort only with your daily cycling belongings such as sunglasses, sunblock and a guidebook.
All that will easily fit into 20-liter pannier bags and a 9-liter waterproof handlebar bag on your bike.
English route descriptions
We provide each client with detailed route descriptions we write ourselves, meaning that we have actually covered every inch of the trail, every bump on the route. Besides blow by blow route instructions the ridebook contains information on various matters you might encounter, e.g. banks, tipping, road signs, etc. With each day’s ride there is a list of things to see, places to eat, sights to visit, including admission and opening hours...
Detailed cycling maps
Each participant gets a complete set of cycling maps with the route highlighted. We use the most accurate topographical maps, often based on military ones, by national map publishers such as Czech Tourist Club (Czech Republic), VKU Harmanec (Slovakia ) or Kompass (Austria, Germany). We also use Bikeline Cycling Guide series published by Verlag Esterbauer. The scales are detailed at 1:50 000 or 1:75 000.
For easy navigation in overnight towns each person obtains a set of detailed town maps with the inbound and outbound route highlighted. There is the location of your hotel or pension marked and you are also provided with address and phone contact to each accommodation place on your tour.
Precise navigation is ensured by Garmin GPS device (one per group) into which we upload your route. There is a map where an arrow points the way once the GPS is set to nagivation mode. Alternatively you can use the compass mode with info on upcoming turns and a large arrow pointing your way.
The GPS also gives data about your ride such as average speed, estimated time of arrival, elevation, or time of sundown.
